Elfie Semotan

Elfie Semotan was born in Austria in 1941. She is regarded as a pioneer of fashion photography and began her career as a model in Vienna and Paris. From the 1960s onwards, she photographed for Vogue, Elle and The New Yorker. Elfie Semotan created iconic campaigns (for Palmers and Römerquelle) and potrayed stars like Willem Dafoe. Her precise portraits and still lifes bridge the worlds of art and fashion. She collaborated closely with Helmut Lang, lived in New York, and was married to Martin Kippenberger, among others.
