The Arabian Monument
Since 2007, Oliver Hartung (Berlin / Leipzig) has travelled widely the Middle East in order to find images that question or supplement our strongly biased perception of the region. He is particularly interested in monuments, signs, objects and semi-urban architecture and landscape.
Through the 'Arab Spring' and especially the current events in Syria, the project is already of historical importance (e.g., the photographs of places like Dera'a and Homs in Syria).
With photographs from Syria, Iran, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Morocco, and with a text by Marco Ries.
The Arabian Monument is the first of several planned publications of a long-term photographic project.
