Across Time. Form and Space.
After the works of Austrian artists Judith P. Fischer and the late Uwe Hauenfels were featured together in a 2024 exhibition curated by Stephanie Buhmann at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, they now meet again in this publication. Far more than a traditional exhibition catalog, this book offers an in-depth exploration of their multifaceted practices. Their art delves into the intersections of space, time, and perception while posing profound questions about transformation and corporeality. Judith P. Fischer investigates the possibilities of line, texture, and materiality in her sculptures, drawings, and installations, as well as their influence on spatial perception. Her large-scale installations, made from elastic cords, are particularly striking, redefining space and dissolving the boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Uwe Hauenfels, whose work continues to resonate beyond his passing, created near-calligraphic spatial compositions using metal and light. Inspired by his travels, his pieces offer a captivating dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art, reimagining material and concept in bold, innovative ways. This book fosters a dynamic conversation between tradition and innovation, inviting readers to immerse themselves in the profound depth and complexity of these two exceptional artists’ work.
